Smart Body Area Networks for e-health
The use of wearables and body sensor devices is rapidly growing in the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN) offer connectivity, facilitate data sharing and interaction and interoperability within surrounding smart environments. The effective use of WBANs should include interoperability management in heterogeneous use cases, low power consumption, low latency, security, robust operation and the ability to interact with the embedded intelligence the smart environments can provide. To meet these challenges, ETSI Technical Committee (TC) SmartBAN (SmartBAN) aims at the realization of a smart WBAN with improved and dedicated performance for medical, health, sport and leisure applications. TC SmartBAN covers communications and the associated physical layer (PHY), medium access control (MAC) layer, network layer, security, Quality-of-Service (QoS), and also provision of generic applications and services. It also provides additional semantic and data analytic enablers (e.g., semantic discovery, reasoning / rules) and automatic node discovery, such as semantic discovery of nodes or composition.
The purpose of this Workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and engineers to present and discuss their latest results on ETSI SmartBAN activities related to e-health applications. The call covers all aspects of SmartBAN from radio, protocol and devices to security, privacy and trust.
This special session solicits original unpublished contributions on the following areas (but not limited):
- SmartBAN system, architecture and requirements
- Channel modelling for SmartBAN
- Coexistence of SmartBAN in the IoMT
- SmartBAN physical layer (e.g. 2.4 GHz, IR-UWB, wearable and implantable)
- Low power SmartBAN Medium Access Control (MAC) layer
- SmartBAN networks and heterogeneity
- Semantic interoperability
- Machine learning for SmartBAN and interaction in smart environments
- Solutions for security, privacy and trust
- Applications of SmartBAN (e.g., health, sports, smart work and living for the elderly, assisted living)
- Test and demonstration
